1. Who we are
TypeWondo ("TypeWondo", "we", "us", "our") operates the website at typewondo.com and is building a Japanese typing game of the same name. This policy explains what personal information the website handles, why, and what you can do about it.
For anything in this policy, you can reach us at typewondoteam@gmail.com.
2. Scope of this policy
This policy covers the TypeWondo website and the contact form on it. It does not cover any third-party website you reach by following a link from here, and it does not yet cover in-game accounts or gameplay data, because neither exists.
3. Information we collect
3.1 Information you give us
If you use the contact form or email us, we receive what you choose to send:
- your name, if you provide one;
- your email address, so we can reply;
- the topic you select;
- the content of your message and anything you include in it.
You control all of it. If you would rather not identify yourself, you may leave the name field blank, although without an email address we have no way to answer you.
3.2 Information collected automatically
Like every website on the internet, TypeWondo cannot be delivered to you without your device's IP address reaching a server. Our hosting provider processes standard server and security logs (IP address, timestamp, requested URL, referring page and browser user-agent) for the purposes of delivering pages, preventing abuse and diagnosing faults. We do not use these logs to build a profile of you, and we do not combine them with anything else.
3.3 Fonts
This site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts. When your browser requests a font file, your IP address and user-agent are transmitted to Google's servers so the file can be delivered. No cookie is set by it. It is not the only third-party request the site makes; see section 3.4. If you would prefer to avoid it, most browsers and content blockers can block requests to fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com; the site remains fully readable with system fonts.
3.4 Google Tag Manager and measurement
This site loads Google Tag Manager (container GTM-MN7K6C5D) on every page. Tag Manager is a container: it does not itself measure anything, but it loads and runs the measurement tags we configure inside it, and loading it transmits your IP address and user-agent to Google.
Tags deployed through the container may set cookies or similar identifiers and may record how you arrived at the site, which pages you viewed and roughly where you are. Where a tag is used for analytics or advertising rather than for something strictly necessary, that is non-essential and requires your consent in the EEA, the UK and a number of other jurisdictions.
4. What we deliberately do not collect
As of the effective date above, TypeWondo does not:
- set advertising, marketing or profiling cookies, or run advertising tags;
- embed social media pixels or share widgets;
- run a newsletter list or a marketing automation platform;
- sell, rent, trade or share personal information with data brokers;
- attempt to identify you across other websites or devices.
If any of that changes, this section is the first thing that will be rewritten, and it will be rewritten before the change goes live rather than after.
5. How we use information
We use what we receive only for these purposes:
- To answer you. Replying to your question, correction, report or enquiry.
- To improve the product. Acting on the language corrections, bug reports and feedback you send. Where we quote feedback publicly, we do so anonymously unless you have given permission.
- To tell you about launch, but only if you asked us to. We do not add contacts to any mailing list by default.
- To keep the site working and safe. Preventing spam and abuse of the contact form, and diagnosing technical faults.
- To meet legal obligations, where we are required to retain or disclose information by applicable law.
We do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
6. Legal bases for processing
Where data protection law requires a legal basis, for example under the EU and UK GDPR, we rely on the following:
- Consent: when you submit the contact form or ask to be notified about launch. You may withdraw consent at any time by emailing us.
- Legitimate interests: operating and securing the website, preventing abuse, and improving the product. We have considered your rights and interests in reaching this conclusion.
- Legal obligation: where retention or disclosure is required by law.
7. Cookies and similar technologies
TypeWondo's own code sets no cookies. Tags loaded through Google Tag Manager may set them, typically first-party analytics cookies that distinguish one browser from another so visits are not double counted.
There is currently no consent banner on this site. Where non-essential cookies are set, consent is required before they are set under the EU ePrivacy Directive, the UK equivalent and comparable rules elsewhere, so a banner is needed before this site is promoted to visitors in those regions. It is listed as outstanding rather than quietly omitted.
We may in future use strictly necessary browser storage, for example localStorage to remember your belt progress on your own device. Storage of that kind stays on your machine, is not transmitted to us, and will be described here before it is introduced. Any non-essential storage would require your consent first.
8. Service providers we rely on
We keep the list of third parties as short as we can. At present it is:
- Netlify: website hosting, content delivery and, where used, contact form submissions. Netlify processes server logs and any form data you submit on our behalf.
- Google: Google Fonts (font delivery, section 3.3) and Google Tag Manager together with the tags loaded through it (section 3.4). Where the contact form is routed through Google Forms, Google also processes the form submission itself, and the message is stored in the associated Google account.
These providers act as processors on our instructions and are not permitted to use your information for their own marketing. Each maintains its own privacy documentation, which governs its handling of the data it processes.
9. International transfers
Our providers operate globally, so information may be processed on servers outside your country, including in the United States. Where personal information is transferred out of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or another region with transfer restrictions, we rely on the safeguards our providers have in place, typically Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent approved mechanism.
10. How long we keep information
- Contact messages: kept for as long as needed to deal with the matter, and then for up to 24 months as a record of correspondence, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
- Launch notification requests: kept until launch has been announced or you ask to be removed, whichever comes first.
- Server and security logs: retained by our hosting provider for a short rolling period under its own retention schedule.
When information is no longer needed we delete it or irreversibly anonymise it.
11. Security
The site is served over HTTPS with a modern TLS configuration and standard security response headers. Access to contact submissions is limited to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, so please do not send passwords, financial details, government identifiers or other sensitive information through the contact form. We will never ask you for any of those.
12. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights over personal information we hold about you:
- Access: ask for a copy of what we hold.
- Rectification: have inaccurate information corrected.
- Erasure: ask us to delete it.
- Restriction: ask us to limit how we use it.
- Objection: object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Portability: receive it in a portable, machine-readable format.
- Withdraw consent: at any time, without affecting processing already carried out.
- Non-discrimination: we will not treat you differently for exercising any of these rights.
To exercise any of them, email typewondoteam@gmail.com with "Privacy request" in the subject line, or use the contact form and choose the 個人情報 (privacy request) option. We aim to respond within 30 days. We may need to ask a question or two to confirm the request came from you, and we will not charge you for a reasonable request.
Because we hold very little, the answer to most access requests is short: the message you sent us, and the email address you sent it from.
13. Children's privacy
The website is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it. When TypeWondo launches, age requirements for any account-based features will be set out in the Terms & Conditions and this section will be expanded accordingly.
14. Third-party links
This site may link to websites we do not control. We are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices, and this policy does not apply once you leave typewondo.com. Read the privacy policy of any site you land on.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as TypeWondo develops, in particular when accounts and gameplay data arrive. The "last updated" date at the top always reflects the current version. For material changes we will post a clear notice on the site, and where the law requires it we will ask for your consent again rather than assuming it.
16. Governing law and complaints
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. If you are a California resident, you may exercise the rights described in section 12 without discrimination. We would appreciate the chance to resolve any concern directly first, so please write to us before escalating.
17. How to contact us
Questions, requests and complaints about privacy all go to the same place:
- Email: typewondoteam@gmail.com
- Form: typewondo.com/contact, choosing the 個人情報 (privacy request) option
